Specific phobias

A phobia is fear of a particular activity or thing, which may or may not be linked to certain events. When faced with the specific activity or object, it can trigger anxiety where thoughts may be about losing control or something bad happening. Symptoms include:

  1. Thoughts – something terrible will happen, it is dangerous, it will harm me
  2. Emotions – scared, anxious, terrified
  3. Physical sensation – heart racing, breathing faster, stomach churning, tight chest, dizzy, blurry vision
  4. Behaviour – avoidant, escape, make excuses
