Long term health conditions

Long term physical health and mental health are interlinked, where one affects the other. Where there is a long term health condition, this can bring changes into the daily routine which may not have been expected, this can result in feeling down and depressed. It can also result in loss of ability to perform as well as you used to which can lead to anxiety and feeling frustrated. These are some of the symptoms experienced when dealing with long term illnesses:

  1. Thoughts – I am not what I used to be, I can’t do anything anymore, my life is wasting away
  2. Emotions – sad, upset, frustrated, angry, irritated
  3. Physical sensations – heart racing, breathing faster, chest pains, stomach churning, sweating and many more
  4. Behaviour – avoid, escape, safety behaviours i.e. plan ahead
